Colvin ~ Wreney Colvin Jr. was born in Akron, Ohio on January 2, 1935. The first child of the late Wreney and Eunice Burke Colvin Sr. He attended the local schools and accepted Jesus Christ at an early age.
Junior, as he was called by his family and friends, was gifted as an automobile mechanic and built a car when he was fifteen years old. Wreney was a jack of all trades ~ a plumber, automobile mechanic, cooperator, electrician, etc.
He served in the U S Navy as an aircraft mechanic and as an Air Sea Rescue Swimmer. Wreney transferred from Patuxent, Maryland to Jacksonville, Florida in 1972 and received an honorable discharge in 1974. He was employed at the US Postal Bulk Mail Center as a maintenance worker for over twenty years before retiring.
Wreney was a volunteer for the American Red Cross, Lifetime member of Disabled Veterans Association, a member of William Washington Chapter #7 and served as a Service Officer, assisting veterans.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Summerville, and Ronnal Colvin. Wreney made his transition from this life on Thursday, July 11, 2024. To cherish his most precious memory, he leaves a loving and devoted wife of sixty-nine years, Oreatha Cruse Colvin; sons, Ronald (Judy) Colvin, Bedford Ohio, Darius (Tessa) Colvin, Richardson, Texas, William Lamont Colvin, Jacksonville, Florida; daughters, Regina (Harold) Myers, Jacksonville, Florida, Monyca (John) Hammonds, McKinney Texas; grandchildren, Shannon Smith, Ronnice Shack, Ronald Colvin Jr., Lindsay Colvin, Monika Shack, Darius Colvin II, Phillip Colvin, Nicholas Colvin, John Hammonds Jr.; ten great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; extended family, Kevin and Marjorie Walker; godson, Fred McClendon; loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Celebration of Life service for Wreney Colvin, Jr. will be 11:00AM Monday, July 22, 2024, at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 3731 Winton Drive. Visitation Sunday from 3 – 5:00 PM at The Soutel Chapel. Interment in Jacksonville National Cemetery. Because of the love of his family, arrangements entrusted to J. E.
