KEEYS ~ Wayne A. Keeys, 79, the son of Jimmy & Dorothy Keeys, was born November 23, 1941 and transitioned Friday, June 25, 2021. As a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he attended West Philly High School, class of 1959.
Wayne was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He resided in Virginia Beach, Virginia many years. Wayne joined the marine corps in 1960 and received a bachelor’s degree in business at Norfolk State University. He retired from the military after twenty-eight years of honorable service – E-9 MGySgt. Wayne was also a marine helicopter gunner in Vietnam. He then worked with the United States Government as Civil Service personnel with twenty years of dedicated service, GS-13; he was a Senior Intelligence Chief for Fleet Marine Force Atlantic & USS Mt. Whitney. Wayne retired with many honors, ribbons, medals and awards.
He was a philanthropist and donated to many charities. Wayne owned a club in Norfolk, Virginia called “The Fox Trap”. He was a member and often served as presidents of Sophisticated Gents, the Hampton Road Branch.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronnie Keeys; brother-in-law, Jimmy Lacey. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Dalwin (Monique) Keeys, Garrett (Sherrie) Levien & Tyrese (Harold Manning Jr) Keeys; grandchildren, Stephon (Shania Mosley) Payne & Brianna Keeys; great-grandchildren, Stephon III, Shaun, Syire, Skyanna, Saniya, Nevaeh, Ka’niriyal; siblings, Ray Lacey, Yvonne Wright; stepbrother, Ronaldo Washington; a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins & friends, including his brother from another mother, MSgt Walter Craig; goddaughter, Vervenus Graves; mother of children, Eva Washington; friend, Phyllis Willoughby; special cousins, Reggie & Billy. Everyone loved and cherished Wayne Keeys – his memory will forever be in our heart.
Celebration of Life Service for Wayne A. Keeys will be 10:00 AM Monday, July 12, 2021 at The Soutel Chapel of J. E. Fralin & Sons, 5065 Soutel Drive. Family will receive friends Sunday at The Soutel Chapel from 3 – 5 PM. Interment 11:30 AM Monday at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road.
