Jones ~ Vondora “Nanny” Jones was born July 8, 1950 to her parents, Charlie Quiantance and Margaret Jones. She attended John Adams Vocational High School and The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. Nanny later moved to Jacksonville, Florida.
Nanny is preceded in death by her father, Charlie Quiantance; mother, Margaret Jones; her love, Dorris King; brother, Billy Edwards; sister, Aaronetta Edwards; niece, Temple Miller-Edwards; great aunt, Lenora Owens; best friend, Von Arline; and her fur babies, Champ and Ryder.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving daughter, Vanessa Thomas-Davis (Greg); grandchildren, Andre (Charkevia), Brittany (Jerod), Tyra, Alacia; great grandchildren, Ahmer, Sarai, Kylar, JJ, King, Jade, Breon, Briel; sisters, Purita, Keisha, Soundra; nephews and nieces, Erik (Olindia), Karese (James), Chiquita (Russell), Dominic (Taylor); a host of great nephews, nieces, and friends.
Nanny, otherwise known as “Auntie Von,” to most, was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and companion. She enjoyed shopping, playing cards or pokeno, cooking, hosting gatherings, being the neighborhood honey dripper lady, a lover of fashion, art and design!!! Nanny was known for sayings like “coins baby” to make sure you knew she was about her money; “Nuttin honey” to let you know what she was doing; “love you more” as a response to I love you; “Giftssssss” around Christmas time. She was extremely proud of her family’s accomplishments and would always take the time to brag about them to others ~ saying “everybody from 2-4-2-8 is successful!” Nanny pretty much had a hand in raising any and everyone in the neighborhood that walked through her door whether you liked it or not. She was certainly a woman of old school values and standards. Nanny understood the meaning of “it takes a village” and played her role in being just that.
She worked for the Hamilton Company for ten plus years. Nanny also worked in childcare and spent most of her years at Little Nuggets Daycare and Lane Avenue Development Center. She was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Nanny was a member of Community Missionary Baptist Church where she was baptized. She will be truly missed.
