Vinson L. James

James ~ Vinson Lavaughn James was born February 18, 1964, in Jacksonville, Florida, to the union of the late Henry Lee James and Thera James.  He attended the local schools of Duval County and graduated from William M. Raines High School, class of 1983.  Vinson pursued a career as a drywall subcontractor for fifteen years, later becoming employed and retired from Kraft Heinz (Maxwell House) in 2019. 

He was a straight shooter whose bark was always bigger than his bite.  Vinson had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone.  He had a memory like an elephant, he would remember people, places, dates and times.  Vinson was always concerned if everyone around him had what they needed.  He wasn’t just concerned about his family and friends, but their kids and family as well.  One thing you could count on most with Vinson was his consistency and commitment to whatever was going on around him.  He was the same no matter the day.  If Vinson started something, he was going to finish it; if he was committed to doing something, he would see his part through.  Vinson was an avid football fan and would not waiver one inch from his beloved Tennessee Titans no matter the record.  

Vinson was preceded in death by his sons, Demetris Ford & Breon James; nephew, Wayne James, Jr.  To cherish his memory, he leaves wife, Sherri Yvette James; bonus daughter, Shawnci Mone’t; devoted grandson, Cyi’Kah King (mother, Cytrice King); mother, Thera James; siblings, Earline Nixon, Melba Tross (Ernest), Wayne James (Christine); nephews and nieces, Tony Nixon, Tiffany Tross, Angie Nixon (Jarrett Morene), Dominique Tross, La’Re Johnson, Natalie McGriff, Caela-Marie Wicks, Kristopher Nixon, Erin Taylor Weathersby, Ashanti Morene, Jordyn, Journey & J. J. Morene; loving best friend, Barbara Wells; a host of loving and caring relatives and friends. 

Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Vinson Lavaughn James, 11 AM Saturday, August 20, 2022, at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, 2503 Myrtle Avenue North, Pastor Darrell Gilyard.   Visitation Friday from 5 – 7 PM at The Master's Touch Ministries.  Because of the love of his family, arrangements entrusted to J.
