MATHIS ~ Mrs. Vera Lester Williams Mathis was born August 31, 1931, in Quincy, Florida, to the late Reverent Tom and Ida Bradwell Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie Mathis; sons, Eric Velester Mathis, Ronnie Javan Mathis; grandson, Ngawne Shango Lee; siblings, Sarah, Millie, Ida, Zellene, twins Essie & Lessie, Polly, Tom, Nathan, Silas & Macon Williams.
Vera was a graduate of Stanton Vocational High School, Jacksonville, Florida. In later years, she received a certificate as a “Girl Friday” (secretary). Vera was a licensed beautician, candidate for city council in the early seventies, employed as a manager for Krystal Restaurants and she was employed as a cook at Clara White Mission.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Nathan Brown (Deborah), Madiene Shakir (Abid), Vanessa Elaine Keiton (Allen), Priscilla Yvonne Twiggs (Dwayne); grandchildren, Adrain Brown, Chaka Swazi Brown, Sherkiear Brown (Scott), Fredrick Young, Linzie Goree, Shukriyyah Mathis, Claudia Mathis, Deon Mathis, Jihad Mikel Keiton (Ericka), Trevis O’bryan Twiggs, Trenton Terrell Twiggs, Tiffany Twiggs Luhrs (Malachi), Erica Mathis; thirty-five great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren (with one on the way); a host of relatives and friends.
Celebration service for Mrs Vera Lester Mathis will be 10:00 AM Friday, July 3, 2020, Graveside ~ Restlawn Memorial Park, 3301 Moncrief Road West.
