Battle ~ Solomon Morris Battle, Jr. was born to proud parents, the late Mr. Solomon Morris Battle, Sr. and the late Mrs. Lucy Bell Battle November 29, 1935, in Albany, Georgia.
Later Solomon relocated to Jacksonville, Florida where he became an exceptional business owner for thirty plus years in the 18-wheeler tractor trailer transportation industry.
Solomon was a well-respected man in his community, known to some as “Serg”, “Sol” or “Buddy Roe”. He was a man of integrity - no vehicle could drive past Solomon’s home without him waving his hand as a gesture to say Hello! Soloman was a man that could hold a conversation with anyone, a great storyteller, just ask his children about the “Santa Clause Story”, amongst countless of other stories that was sure to leave a smile on your face. He enjoyed fishing and had a passion for hunting. Solomon was a member of several clubs such as the motorcycle club, fishing club and hunting club.
He leaves to mourn his passing, a loving wife, Valerie Battle; sons, Tommy Gilbert, Curtis Rogers (Vonkesha), Solomon Battle, Richad Battle, Izell Byrd; daughters, Anita (Chubby), LaShonte’ “Pretty mama” Porter, Fannisha Byrd, Armina Byrd; seventeen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; loving mother-in-law, Viola Douglas; sisters, Elaine Campbell, Mae Burt, Mary Best, Dollie Miller; dedicated cousin, Ronald (Lynette); dedicated friend, Mr. Bob Taylor & Robert McMillian; a generous amount of extended family members and friends.
