Dickerson ~ Sherrod Leonard Dickerson was born October 8, 1972 to Horace and Lucille Johnson in Jacksonville, Florida. He was educated in the Duval County School System and later married Mary Young. Sherrod spent his days going fishing, watching football and listening to music. It was not uncommon to find him on his porch singing to the likes of Otis Redding, Al Green and Marvin Gaye.
Growing up, he was an audacious young man who mastered the "gift of gab" at a young age. Sherrod was well known for his story telling and contagious laugh. Always the life of the party, he was charismatic and charming. Sherrod was known for being playful and cheerful with his family and friends; he was always a jokester. Wise beyond his years, he always left the youth he encountered with thoughtful life gems and advice. Sherrod was a die hard Jacksonville Jaguar fan who was known in his community for tailgating and barbequing on Sundays during football season. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Sherrod transitioned from this life March 6, 2022. True to the selfless, loving person he was, his final act was to give the gift of life through organ donation. He was preceded in death by his father, Horace Johnson; grandfather, William Dickerson; grandmother, Diana Mae Dickerson. He is survived by wife, Mary Dickerson; daughter, Michelle Banks; grandchildren, Shakira, Tashod, Mikaylah, Taylor, Ashton; mother, Lucille Johnson; brothers, Darieus Johnson, Derrick Brown; sister, Equille Johnson; a host of nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts, cousins, extended family and friends. Celebration of Life service for Sherrod Leonard Dickerson will be 10:00AM Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Mt Herman Missionary Baptist Church, 5527 Redpoll Avenue.
