Cowan ~ Samuel James Cowan Jr., a beloved son was born on December 27, 1962, to Samuel James Cowan Sr. and Elnora Cowan in St. Petersburg, Florida. He enjoyed attending Jacksonville’s International Church of Christ, cooking, surfing online and spending quality time with his beautiful granddaughter Mariah.
Samuel worked for various companies and held several management positions at companies like Red Lobster, Sonny’s BBQ, Sticky Fingers as well as other management roles at Prudential and State Farm respectively. He was a very driven individual who strived to excel at everything he ventured. People knew him to have a very talkative and outgoing personality, always willing to help others in any way he could, in other words, he was always willing to accept a challenge; he wasn’t a stranger to anybody and was truly a thinker.
In 2003, Sam earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from Phoenix University, graduating with Honors. After a few health setbacks, he started his company, Cowan’s Caring Companions, in order to help less fortunate individuals such as Veterans and single mothers. Recently, he was preparing to take the LSAT because he endeavored to pursue a Jurors Doctorate in Law to become a Florida Board Certified Lawyer.
Early in the quiet morning of January 27, 2026, God called Samuel home. He is preceded in death by his wife, Kathy Kubica Cowan; parents, Samuel James Cowan Sr. and Elnora Cowan. Samuel leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Samuel James Cowan III, Joshua Nathaniel Cowan; older brother, Earnest Williams of Atlanta, Georgia; a host of aunts, cousins, and many other family and friends. Sam will forever be remembered by all who knew him.
