Simmons ~ Randy Simmons, affectionately known as Big Randy, was born July 28, 1952, in Jacksonville, Florida, to the late Clyde Simmons Sr. and Helen Groom. He peacefully departed this life October 12, 2025, at the hospital.
Randy worked as a brick mason for many years within the family business. He was known for his hard work and willingness to help others. Randy gave his life to Christ at an early age and was a member at Greggs Temple AME Church, Jacksonville, Florida where he held his membership for many years.
He was united in marriage to Hattie Simmons on September 1, 1982, and together they were blessed with three children ~ Naomi Simmons, Anthony Baggs and Randy Baggs.
Randy was preceded in death by his siblings and family members, Rachel Simmons, Wendy Simmons, Louis Simmons, Louvenia Pace, Clyde Simmons Jr.; nephew, Larry Simmons; niece, Felicia Simmons. He leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted siblings, Gregory Simmons, Betty Simmons, Carolyn Foster (Robert Foster); his beloved grandchildren, Kennedy Baggs, “AJ” Baggs, Mya Simmons, Vaughn Simmons, Kharissa Simmons; a host of nephews, nieces, including Iran Simmons, Lisa Simmons, Terry Simmons (Andreia Simmons), Kreg Youngblood (JoAnna Youngblood), Yvonne Garlington (Darren Garlington), Terrance Simmons, Corey Simmons (Fonda Simmons), Crissy Simmons, Sheynette Simmons, Eric Simmons, Louis Simmons (Tiffany Simmons), Tina Henderson-Pitt (Ray Pitt); a host of great-nieces, great-nephews; brother-in-law, Sean Baggs (Tina Kellum); sisters-in-law, Irene Gibson and Lavina Green; cousins, extended family, and friends who loved him dearly.
Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Celebration of Life service for Randy Simmons will be 1:00PM Friday, October 17, 2025, at The Soutel Chapel. Visitation Thursday from 5 – 6:00 PM at The Soutel Chapel.
