MOY ~Perlum “Mickey” Moy was born March 7, 1932 to Moses Moy and Birdie Talton, in Monroe, Louisiana. He attended local schools in Monroe; after graduating he enlisted in the United State Navy. It was upon being stationed in Massachusetts where he met and married the love of his life, Katherine Durant. He leaves to cherish his memory, children, Carl I. Moy, Sharon “Elaine” Moy, Vanessa Moy-Henry (Booker-T) and Teri L. Moy; grandchildren, Karl D. Moy, Simon Gilliam, LaTavia J. Foye, Stanley B. Brown, Brandon D. Brown, Tierra N. Moy, Kizzy I. Moss, Cartina D. Henry and Booker Henry III; great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Helen R. Moy, Monroe, Louisiana; nephews, nieces other relatives and friends.
Through his amazing military career, Perlum would often say, “I thank God for allowing this poor boy from Louisiana to travel and see the world.” He worked his way up the ranks and retired a Master Chief. After honorably retiring from the Navy, he joined the Mayport Fire Department. His enlistment in the Navy and employment at Mayport’s fire department allowed him to forge lasting friendships with Mel Johnson, Lee Stephens, Harold Lemon, and many others. He was affectionately called “Uncle Navy” by the nephews and nieces growing up in Louisiana, and with recent years those passing by his home world get a “thumbs-up” gesture when he greeted them. He will truly be missed.
