Mother Shelly McGee-Groover Obituary

McGee-Groover  ~ First Lady Mother Shelly Rose McGee-Groover, was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her infectious smile was loved by many. Our Rose peacefully and graciously graduated to glory on November 2nd, 2022, at the age 86 surrounded by family in Jacksonville, Florida.

First Lady Mother Shelly Rose was the 4th begotten child born to the Late Elder Andrew and Late Sister Corrinne Grimsley June 23, 1936, in Abbeville, Alabama where she was raised in the nurture and admonition of the Lord by her parents. She attended public school in Abbeville, graduated from Stanton High School in 1969 and pursued her dreams to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. Mother Shelly Rose began her nursing career at Baptist Hospital in Downtown Jacksonville and successfully moved on to the Department of Health with the State of Florida where she retired after many years of service.

Shelly Rose accepted Christ as her personal Saviour and received the Gift of the Holy Ghost at Refuge Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith Inc. in Jacksonville, Florida under then Pastor Elder Gentle Lee Groover, whom she later married, and gained thirteen bonus children.

1st Lady Mother Shelly Rose was preceded in death by her husband, The Honorable Apostle Dr. Gentle Lee Groover; children, Luke Spear Junior, and Alfred Spear; bonus son, Charles H.(Mary) McGee, and bonus daughter, Linda Ann (Frank) Groover-Jacobs; siblings, Mamie Torres(Chino), Pauline (Gene) McClanahan, Elder Saint Joseph (Ruby) Grimsley, Lillie Joe (Lloyd) Evans, Lee (Martha) Grimsley, Johnnie Mae (James) Jones and Namon and Lamon Grimsley (deceased at 3-months March 1939).

She leaves to cherish precious, life-long memories her youngest son, Bruce E. (Charese) McGee; granddaughter, Brandhi Alexandria Hixon; younger brother, Anderson Grimsley (Bettye); bonus children, Bishop Kenneth (Elvenia), Elder Paul Keith (Sylvia), Deacon Gentle Lee Jr. (Kathy), Sinda Ann, Glinda Ann (Bishop Dr. Derrick Roberts), Dr. Saundra Kaye (Deacon Darryl Moore), Dr. Timothy Gentle MD (Brittany), Danita Norine, Jacqueline Yvette, Gamaliel Gomer, and Vivian Michelle (Dr. Kelvin Wiley); grandchildren, Tredesa, Elijah, Michael Jr, Vashaun, Devon, Tiffany, Charmaine, Willie, Rebekah, Miriam, Sylecia, Keiara, Dominique, Gentle III, Shelondia, Vivian, Gentlelette, Derrick II, Justin, Christopher, Darryl II, Linda, and Timothy II; a host of bonus great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and cousins. 

Celebration of Life service for First Lady Mother Shelly Rose McGee-Groover will be 10:30AM Friday, November 18, 2022 at Greater Refuge Temple, 1317 Rowe Avenue, Bishop Kenneth Groover, Pastor.  Visitation Thursday from 5 – 7:00 PM at The Soutel Chapel.  Interment in Jacksonville National Cemetery.  Because of the love of her family, arrangements entrusted to J.
