Waiters-Sherman ~ Evangelist Mather Waiters-Sherman was born to Reverend Quillie and Mother Mazell Spellman September 14, 1934, in Bamberg, South Carolina.
At an early age she gave her life to the Lord and attended Ebenezer Methodist Church in Olar, South Carolina. After marriage to the late James Waiters, the couple moved to Jacksonville, Florida. To that union was born six children of which three preceded her in death - Mary, Regina and James.
In the early 70’s, Evangelist Waiters-Sherman joined Progressive Bible Way Church of Jacksonville, Florida under the leadership of Elder Abraham Daise. After Elder Daise passed, she continued to serve the Lord faithfully under the leadership of Apostle Jimmie Plowden. Evangelist Waiters-Sherman served on the Missionary Board, Missionary Choir, and the Willing Workers Auxiliary. She was a member of the Senior Citizens Community Choir.
Evangelist Waiters-Sherman was employed for many years at Regency House where she worked as a certified nursing assistant, assisting with the care of elderly patients. She established a group home where she housed and cared for intellectually challenged women. Evangelist Waiters-Sherman also opened a second group home where she worked and cared for intellectually challenged young men. She was a very unique, loving and caring person who opened her heart to all. Evangelist Waiters-Sherman was very much loved by all who knew her.
She leaves to cherish her memories a loving husband, Mr. James Sherman; daughter, Mamie “Mimi” Clark (English); sons, Russell E. Waiters, Ronald D. Waiters; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy M. Mack, Veryl Spellman; a special sister and friend, Mother Hazel Byrd; a special son, James M. Lewis; a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life service for Evangelist Mather Waiters-Sherman will be 12:00PM Saturday, November 5, 2022 at International Bibleway Church, 3704 North Pearl Street, Apostle Jimmie L. Plowden. Visitation Friday from 5 – 7:00 PM at The Soutel Chapel. Interment in Restlawn Memorial Park. Because of the love of her family, arrangements entrusted to J. E.
