Brooks ~ Mary Lee Wicker Brooks transitioned peacefully from this realm on March 1, 2026, in Jacksonville, Florida. She was born on October 31, 1940, in Glenmore, Georgia, to the late John and Eula Mae Wicker. Mary’s life was truly a testimony of faith, service, creativity, leadership, and boundless love.
Mary was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose life was defined by service, generosity, and love for others. As an active deaconess, she faithfully and tirelessly served for many years, her devotion to her church community evident through her participation in Vacation Bible School and her support of her grandchildren as they served in the choir and junior usher board.
She was a proud member of the Truevine #181 Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as Past Worthy Matron, Secretary, and Conductress, receiving recognition from the Royal Grand Chapter for her dedicated service.
In her early years, Mary was known as “everyone’s mom.” She was a devoted member of the PTA and served as a parent leader for the band and football boosters, always making sure that no child went without. Her home and heart were always open to others.
She was deeply involved in the lives of her grandchildren, lovingly ensuring they were well fed, well rested, properly clothed, and actively involved in church. She believed strongly in nurturing both their physical well-being and their spiritual foundation.
Mary was also known for her extraordinary cooking and her love for Southern cuisine. Family and friends often sought her out for her delicious oxtails, chitlins, macaroni and cheese, greens, and many other cherished dishes. Her meals were expressions of love.
A woman of many talents, Mary was also a gifted seamstress. She designed and created a wide range of clothing, including prom gowns, ballroom attire, conference apparel, and garments for numerous professional and special occasions. Her creativity and craftsmanship reflected both her elegance and meticulous attention to detail.
In her later years, Mary continued pouring into others by teaching crocheting classes and offering wisdom, encouragement, and life lessons to young and aspiring medical professionals. Above all, her greatest joy was her family, especially her great-grandchildren, whom she lovingly supported, always making sure they had what they needed for school, clothing, or simple childhood joys.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Lee Brooks, and two siblings, Ruby Gholston and Robert Wicker, Sr. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted daughter, Beverly L. Brooks Jackson (Albert); three beloved grandchildren, Jamal, Aaliyah, and Bryan; and two treasured great-grandchildren, Jalen and Ahavah Blue, whose presence filled her days with joy and purpose. She is also fondly remembered by her loving siblings, John Wicker Jr., Maggie Wicker, and Mary Green (God-sister), along with a host of nieces, nephews, family members, and friends whose lives she touched with her warmth and faith. She also embraced her Godchildren, Tara Williams, Rachel Demery, Tramaine Jones, Latrice Smith, Tanitra Jones, and Mirakle Price, as well as her stepchildren and their families, sharing her kindness and wisdom throughout their life journeys.
