Way ~ Ms. Martha Ann “Mother” Way was born August 28, 1943, in Camden County, Georgia to parents Leon and Juanita Way. Ms. Way entered Heaven’s gates on Sunday, June 9, 2024. After graduating from Camden County High School, Ms. Way enlisted in the U.S. Military where she served five years as an ear, nose, and throat specialist with the ranking of Class E Sargent. After her military service, Ms. Way served as a Correctional Officer at Soledad Prison in California. Later, in Texas, Ms. Way became a Licensed Practical Nurse. A world traveler, Ms. Way spent time in Germany and Japan.
“Mother Way” was active in her church (New Life Community UMC). She served faithfully for many years as a member of the Worship Team - traveling as far as Nassau, Bahamas to minister. Mother Way also served as the Prayer Ministry Team Leader - she was dedicated to a prayer life. When she could no longer attend physically, she held prayer on the telephone. Ms. Way was a faithful member – doing all she could while she could.
Ms. Way was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Juanita; siblings, Annie Lou Hayward and Katherine Poole. She is survived by her daughter, Monique Way; grandchildren, Martez Deleon Way, Ambonisye Boatwright, Marcell Brown, Jaden Brown; great grandson, Martez Deleon Way Jr. (mother, Brittany Williams); nephews, Earl Way, Shaleem Dempsey, Christian Long, Harold Long; nieces, Nita Long, Vickie Hayward, Victoria Long (“Muffin”); a host of other family and friends.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Ms. Martha Ann Way, 11 AM Saturday, June 15, 2024, at New Life Community United Methodist Church, 11100 Wingate Road. Visitation Friday from 5 – 7 PM at The Soutel Chapel. Interment in Jacksonville National Cemetery. Because of the love of her family, arrangements entrusted to J. E.
