The Beginning: Martha Ann Groom was the third sibling born of thirteen to the union of Dan Groom and Lou Dixie Colbert Groom, January 20, 1948, in Eufaula, Barbour County, Alabama. Martha received her education in Eufaula, Alabama. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Springfield Baptist Church, Eufaula, Alabama.
Her Life: Martha later relocated to Jacksonville, Florida where she furthered her education at Jones College; she studied Business Administration. Martha was employed with Atlantic Bank and Peninsular Insurance Company. After diligently giving Wells Fargo over thirty years of service she retired. Her working career was not finished. She then started doing “home sitting”. Martha enjoyed helping seniors who could not always help themselves. She was a faithful member of West Union Missionary Baptist Church. Martha served on the Usher Board and attended Sunday School until her health began to fail. She always supported the Youth Ministry by donating school supplies, sponsoring various outings, donating crossword puzzle books and snacks to the youth and seniors of the church. Martha loved gardening and would share her flowers and plants as her appreciation of love.
Her Legacy: Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Dan Groom and Lou Dixie Colbert Groom Hunter; brother, Otis Colbert; brothers-in-law, James White, Roy Lee Dozier; sister-in-law, Tina Murray. She leaves to cherish her love, siblings, Rosa Mae Colbert, Jacksonville, Florida, Glenda White, Phoenix City, Alabama, Murray Lee Hunter, Clarksville Tennessee, Rebecca (Larry) Shorter, Eufaula, Alabama, Jolinda (George) Walker, Dothan, Alabama, Robert (Alice) Hunter, Jenetta Dozier, Earnestine (Andre’) Harris, Garry Appling, Joseph Hunter, Jr., Doris (Carter) Haines and Darrell Hunter of Eufaula, Alabama; uncles, Marvin Turner, Eufaula, Alabama, Bobby Turner, Eufaula, Alabama; aunts, Idalia Colbert, Jacksonville, Florida, LaVerne Colbert, Gary, Indiana, Dorothy Russo, Eufaula, Alabama; sister-in-law, Mildred Colbert, Tampa, Florida; thirty-six nephews and nieces; forty great nephews and nieces; three great-great nephews and nieces; a host of other sorrowing family and friends including devoted caregivers ~ Rosa M. Colbert, sister, Rashaud Colbert, nephew, Johnnie Wallace and Frances Lynch-Smith.
Earthly End: On Monday, August 28, 2023, Martha received her wings and was welcomed to her final home and said, “BLESS YOU, BLESS YOU, BLESS YOU”.
Celebration of Life service for Ms. Martha Ann Groom will be 10:00AM Saturday, September 9, 2023 at West Union Missionary Baptist Church, 1605 West Beaver Street. Visitation Friday from 5 – 7:00 PM at The Soutel Chapel. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery. Because of the love of her family, arrangements entrusted to J. E.
