Howard ~ Mother Lula Mae Brooks Howard was born June 6, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois. Both parents and eight siblings preceded her in death. Later in her adult life, Lula Mae discovered that she had another sister, Deborah Johnson who resided in Chicago.
Lula Mae attended the Wendell Phillips High School in Chicago and graduated at age sixteen. She attended Malcolm X College where she earned her nursing degree and was employed as a Registered Nurse for over thirty years in Chicago until she retired in the 90’s due to health problems.
She was married to Levestus Walker in 1962 and this marriage ended in divorce. Although Lula Mae grew up and had her nursing career in Chicago, in 2003 she relocated to Jacksonville, Florida. On October 1, 2011, she was married to Elder Anthony Howard of the Bethel Baptist Institutional Church, where they held membership. Later, Lula Mae moved her membership to the Impact Church in Arlington, near her home.
Lula Mae was a fun-loving person who enjoyed giving to the less fortunate, traveling, pottery and Thrift Store shopping. She was a member of the Singleton Senior Citizens Center, the Live Long & Like It Club and the Diamonds Line Dancing Group.
Lula Mae departed this life June 12, 2022, in Jacksonville. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Elder Anthony Howard in January 2021; daughter, Leatrice Walker in 2001. Lula Mae leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Levestus N. Walker, Jr. (Jessica), Howard L. Walker, and Ronald R. Walker; grandchildren, Jermell, Zshaquel, Christopher, Adore and Monty; sister, Deborah Johnson; a host of nephews, nieces, extended relatives and sorrowing friends.
