Scott ~Joseph “Joe” Scott was born February 23, 1942, in Americus, Georgia to Charlie and Mattie Lue Range Scott. He relocated at an early age to Quincy, Florida with family and siblings. Joseph moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 1975.
He was employed in construction as a concrete finisher. He was a member of Beverly Hills Church of God, today known as Greater Harvest Christian Fellowship. Joseph was skilled at drawing. His home was open to those in need – he was an advocate for women. Joseph felt he had to care for his community – he was the community’s protector, defender, and confidant.
Joseph was a family man and was blessed with seven children. He especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joseph was the patriarch of the family; he was open to discussion, showed compassion, loved the underdog, supportive, protective, and taught everyone to be punctual. He taught others how to drive cars, enjoyed racing (running) with the grandchildren, showed them how to pull a tooth by tying a string around the loose tooth and the doorknob, then closing the door. Joseph did not like chaos. Joseph loved to play cards (spades) and dance.
He was preceded in death by son, Joseph Scott Jr.; daughter, Martha Scott; parents, Charlie & Mattie Scott; son-in-law, Victor Brown. Joseph entered eternal rest May 1, 2024, and leaves behind children, Nelson (Christy) Foster, Beverly A. Scott, Lucinda (William) Warren, Rickey Scott, Lavana (Ricardo) Scott-Hamilton; step children, Willie, Leonard Ross; grandchildren, Marvin, Naeisha & Kiavanni Sanders, Zachary Tucker, Zariah & Zacaria Hamilton, Andre-Scott ”KD” Paasewe, Emanuel, Alexandria, Alana Scott, Tavares Foster, Denetress Hinton; a host of great grandchildren to include, Dekari Williams, Brandon Cooper, Camarinam, Kennori Foster, Brandon, Davon, Kenyatta Scott; sisters, Mattie Wilson, Irene Weatherspoon, Mattie (Henry) Glover; a host of step grand and great grandchildren; a host of nephews, nieces, extended family and friends, including a loving friend/son, Ricky Taylor.
We will all remember Joseph as the mastermind of love and prosperity. Joseph will truly be missed.
