KING ~ Johnie King, Sr., 90, of Fernandina Beach, Florida, transitioned Friday, 30 July 2021, at his Fernandina Beach residence. Born in Fernandina Beach, he was the son of the late Joseph King and Maude White.
For over 42 years he worked at ITT Rayonier Paper Mill. His many positions with the company allowed him to learn and move to greater tasks within the company. Mr. King retired from ITT Rayonier at the age of 62. During his employment with the company, Mr. King joined the Brotherhood of International Pulp Sulphite and Paper Mill Workers affiliated with the AFL-CIO. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity and a Master Mason of Travelers Lodge #8, Fernandina Beach.
Mr. King was an avid traveler who visited Germany, Paris, France, Puerto Rico, and was known to cross the United States numerous times, visiting many of the states where his daughters were stationed in the military and many other places he longed to visit.
He enjoyed the game of golf, driving golf balls into the woods, around the house and putting in the yard. Mr. King was an excellent swimmer and would swim in the American Beach whenever he could. He also enjoyed fishing and would fish the American Beach with his family. Mr. King loved music and was an outstanding dancer.
Mr. King was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church of Fernandina Beach Florida, Inc. from his youth until he transitioned 30 July 2021. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Mullen King; son, Johnny Tyrone King, Jr.; father, Joseph King; mother, Maude White; brother, Joseph Valentino King; sister, Margaret Hamilton. Mr. King is survived by his daughters, Merel R. King, Teresa V. King, Venetia Mitchell; grandchildren, Charles Wilson (Houston, Texas), Candy King, Tiffany King Calhoun (Jerry), Brandi Hawthorne (Houston, Texas), Nathan Bacon, Jackie Mitchell, Keith Williams, Richard Roberts, Keyshawn Williams; great-grandchildren, Jaeda Hawthorne (Houston, Texas), Saadiq & Nailah Bacon; a host of nephews, nieces, cousin and great long-term friends, Mr. Leo Green and Mr. A. C. White. Mr. King will be missed by all who knew him.
Celebration Service for Johnie King, Sr. will be 11:00 AM Saturday, August 7, 2021, at First Baptist Church of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Inc., 22 South 9th Street, Reverend Darien K. Bolden, Pastor.
