Stevens ~ Joann Ellison Fleming Stevens lovingly known as “Joan” to family and friends was born August 31st, 1945, to Albert and Doris Ellison in Jacksonville, Florida. At an early age, Joann gave her life to Christ and was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Jacksonville, Florida. Later in life, she joined The Church Fellowship, where she served as leader of the Hospitality Ministry in which she called “The Kool-Aid Committee”.
Joann was employed with several restaurants including Popeyes as Manager and Krystal. She later worked at Coach until her retirement.
She loved her family and friends dearly, and never hesitated to help them whenever they needed something. Joann loved cooking and enjoyed her life to the fullest. In 2010, she married the love of her life, Prince Stevens. Her home was always the place to go for love, laughter and a good meal. Beyond her passion for cooking, she loved watching cowboy movies; “Gunsmoke” was her favorite.
In 2015, Joann joined Truth In Love Ministries and was a faithful member until her health began to fail.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Ellison, Sr. and Doris Ellison. On Thursday, March 21st, 2024, Joann transitioned peacefully to be with the Lord. Joann leaves to cherish her memory, he loving and devoted husband of eighteen years, Prince Stevens; she was the oldest of five siblings, Albert Ellison Jr. (Sandra), Cassandra Robinson, Margie Levine, Kenneth Ellison (Denese), Maxine Ellison (all of Jacksonville, Florida); sister-in-law, Dorothy Benson; step daughter, Stephanie Stevens; a host of loving nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and devoted friends including Nadine Lewis, Kim Christopher and her “Golden Girlz Crew”.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Joann Ellison Fleming Stevens, 11 AM Friday, April 5, 2024, at Truth In Love Ministries, 1989 Dunn Avenue. Visitation Thursday from 5 – 7 PM at The Soutel Chapel. Interment in Jacksonville National Cemetery. Because of the love of her family, arrangements entrusted to J. E.
