Harrison ~ Irene Arlene Harrison was born December 4, 1974, to Gale Delores Carey and Leroy Harrison Jr., in Jacksonville, Florida. Irene was the eldest of five children and was affectionately referred to as “Precious” by those who loved her. Growing up, Irene was always artistic and athletic, and participated in everything from dance and ballet to cheer and track and field. But there was something she loved to do more than anything else, singing. Irene would sing and praise to the heavens with her voice, and she showed her love to God every time she sang. As Irene got older, she found something else she loved even more than singing, which was being a mother.
Irene had six beautiful children and two grandchildren, whom she adored. Though she became a mother young, she strove to give her children a better life. She was both a hard worker and a hustler who worked towards her education and did numerous jobs to take care of herself and her children. Never one for words of affection, Irene showed her love to her children and those around her through her actions, listening ear, honesty, and support.
She was many things: a daughter, a mother, a grandmother, a sister, a friend, a child of God, a fashionista, a lover of food, a fighter, a cancer survivor, and so much more. For a woman who was barely five feet tall, Irene was a firecracker with a quick temper, but also one of the sweetest people you would ever know. And even with life’s many hardships, she was always there for those she loved. Irene truly and deeply loved her family, and her memory will live on through those who loved her.
Irene leaves behind her children, Shatoria Harrison, Teayair Harrison, Shukayla Harrison, Brian Jackson Jr., Breon Jackson, Montana Smith; grandchildren, Mekhi Harrison and Serenity Harrison; parents, Gale Carey and Leroy Harrison Jr.; siblings, Karen DeCosta, Leroy Harrison III, Lorraine Jenkins, Latoya Barrett; nephews, nieces and many more extended family and friends.
