Young~ Horace Young Jr. was born July 23, 1950, to Horace Young Sr. and Annie Mae Young in Greenville, South Carolina. He attended local schools and after graduating Bryson High School in 1969, he ventured out joining the United States Army in 1970 where he honorably served his country for four years as a helicopter mechanic. Horace also had a tour of duty in Vietnam.
He obeyed the gospel of CHRIST on December 9, 1983, by being added to the Church of Christ. Horace was a faithful member of the Riverview Church of Christ and a hard fighting soldier on Jesus’ battlefield since being added to the church. He enjoyed attending Bible Study and the Worship Services. Horace served as a song leader, communion leader and table assistant, as well as evangelism worker.
He worked in food transportation well over 35 years. Horace received many commendations, awards, and recognitions including employee of the month several times, for his outstanding and hardworking service.
Horace met the love of his life Jannie Simmons July 23, 1983, at Pic N' Save, inquiring where he could buy a moon pie. That encounter lead to a bible study with Minister Charley Moore. Horace and Jannie were married January 9, 1984. They joyfully and happily enjoyed almost 38 years of marriage.
Horace departed this life Wednesday, December 1, 2021, to be with his Savior forever. He was proceeded in death by his parents Horace and Annie Mae Young. Horace leaves to treasure his precious memories, his loving and devoted wife, Jannie Young; sisters, Ola Mae Oglesby, Loretta Jones (Joseph), Hattie Rebecca Young and Gloria Jean D'Oyley, all of Greenville, South Carolina; first cousins, Hattie Bell Durham, Kenneth Durham, and Michael Young, also from Greenville, South Carolina; brother-in-law, Henry Singleton (Brenda) of Port St. Lucie, Florida; a host of sorrowing relatives and friends.
Horace Young, we thank you for your love, kindness, and gentle spirit. As a dedicated servant of Jesus Christ, we learned from you. You will never be forgotten, always loved, and missed.
Graveside Service for Horace Young will be 11:30 AM Thursday, December 9, 2021, Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road. Visitation Wednesday from 5 – 6 PM at The Soutel Chapel.
