WILLIAMS ~
Henry “Duke” Williams, Jr. was born in Thomasville, Georgia to Henry Williams, Sr. and Bessie Braswell. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served his country in the Korean War. After serving his country, Henry worked with Williams Construction Company where he helped to build the Independent Life building in downtown Jacksonville, Florida. He later worked with his brother-in-law in the construction industry and after construction, Henry joined his niece Essie “Mae” in the restaurant industry where they worked for more than thirty years. His passion was playing with his nieces, Eden and Jaden. Henry enjoyed working with his niece Essie Mae; he loved cleaning – especially sweeping and mopping the floor.
Henry was a member of Grace Baptist Church for more than twenty years. He was a meek and mild-mannered gentleman. Henry was a man of few words, but had no problem speaking his mind. He will be greatly missed especially by his niece Essie Mae.
Henry leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory, niece, Essie Mae (Ernest) Dewey; daughters, Gwendolyn Smiley, Cynthia Hill, Lynette (Kenneth) Cohen, Theresa Williams; nephew, Ronnie (Petryce) English, a host of nephews, nieces, his Thomasville, Georgia family, other relatives and many sorrowing friends, including “Claudzale Alvins”.
