Smith ~ George Alphonso Smith passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 83, January 9, 2024, in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born November 11, 1940, to parents George H. Smith and Evelyn F. Gates.
George leaves to cherish his memories, loving wife of sixty-five years, Alma Jean Smith; loving children, George (Adela) Smith, Jacquelyn (Michael) Cross, Timothy R. Smith; grandchildren, Jarrod (Tiesha) Smith, Tanesha Brown, Shanice Smith, Nicholas (Kimeka) Smith, Tyler V. Cross; nine great grandchildren; goddaughters, nieces, cousins, and special friends.
George’s life was full of love, warmth and kindness towards family and friends alike. He had a passion for fishing, western movies, and became an avid baseball fan. George loved the Lord, was a Sunday School teacher and trustee member for over fifty years. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of George Alphonso Smith, 11 AM Friday, January 19, 2024, at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, 2036 Silver Street. Visitation Thursday from 5 – 7 PM at The Soutel Chapel. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery. Because of the love of his family, arrangements entrusted to J. E.
