Sampson - Dorothy B. Sampson was born to the late Joseph Lee Byron and Abbie Byron in Milan, Georgia, November 6, 1941. She was the eighth of thirteen children.
Dorothy was preceded in death by parents Joseph & Abbie Byron; brothers, Joseph Lee Byron, Robert Byron, Chester Hurst, Bobby Byron; sisters, Bernice Byron, Zetta Bell Byron, Jessie Lee Woodard, Ernestine Smith, Lorene Byron. She leaves survivors, brothers, Alner Hurst, Elton Hurst (Shirleen); sister, Vera Jardan; other relatives and friends.
In 1959 she graduated from Central High School in McRae, Georgia where she was the captain of the girls’ basketball team; they won several state championships. She enrolled in cosmetology school when she moved to Jacksonville, Florida and graduated to become a great cosmetologist and won many awards. Dorothy worked at several salons before acquiring her own. She eventually held a joint business with Katie Snelling, S & S Beauty Salon.
Dorothy was a member of Emanuel Missionary Baptist Church and the S L Badger Choir. She was married to Spencer Sampson and the union was blessed with one son, Todderick L. (Gwen T) Sampson; four grandchildren; a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Celebration of Life service for Mrs. Dorothy Sampson will be 11:00AM Saturday, January 17, 2022 at Emanuel Missionary Baptist Church, 2407 Rev S L Badger Jr Creek East.
