Dorothy L. Johnson

Johnson ~ Dorothy Louise Johnson was born November 23, 1942, in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Mr. Henry McCray and Mrs. Josephine H. Williams.  Preceded in death by Flora Curry (Eddie Lee), Henrietta Chieves (Robert), Vernard McCray; sister-in-law, Willa Regina McCray.

She received her early education in the Duval Public Schools, Jacksonville, Florida, graduating from New Stanton High School.  Furthering her education, Mrs. Johnson attended Edward Waters College, Jacksonville, Florida where she received her bachelor’s degree.  Ms. Dorothy Johnson retired from Duval County Public Schools as a secretary to the Dean of Boys at Wolfson Senior High School.  She was a member of The Bethel Church, Jacksonville, Florida.  She was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching her favorite basketball player, LeBron James.  Ms. Dorothy Johnson had a photogenic memory and was the family’s historian. 

She leaves to cherish her memory, loving daughter, Twanna Artis; siblings, Solomon McCray, Janet Smith, Jimmie Lee McCray, Wanda Martin (David), Kevin McCray (Mary); a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and sorrowing friends.

Ms. Dorothy Johnson loved her family and was always uplifting to others.  Her final words to everyone January 8, 2023, “It’s all in God’s hand”.

Celebration of Life service for Ms. Dorothy Louise Johnson will be 11:00AM Saturday, January 14, 2023 at The Bethel Church, 215 Bethel Baptist Street, Bishop R. W. McKissick, Jr., Lead Pastor; Bishop R. W. McKissick, Sr., Pastor Emeritus.  Visitation Friday from 5 – 7:00 PM at The Soutel Chapel.  Interment in Restlawn Memorial Park.  Because of the love of her family, arrangements entrusted to J. E.
