Blake ~ A woman of grace, strength and boundless love ~
Dorothy E. Blake, affectionately known by many as “Mrs. Dot” passed away peacefully December 31, 2025, at the golden age of 99. She was born April 4,1926, in Odum, Georgia to Beatrice Chaulk.
Dorothy was educated in the public schools in Jesup, Georgia, where she met and married the late Arthur Lee Blake. From this union was born, three daughters - Barbara Hamilton, Sharon Nelson, and Patricia Simmons. As the matriarch of the family, Dorothy was a devoted, steadfast partner, demonstrating strength, and grace alongside her husband. She offered unwavering support and unconditional love to her children. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were a source of immense joy for her; Dorothy cherished her time with the grandchildren, enriching their lives with love, wisdom, and laughter.
Her life truly consisted of serving others, whether it be her family, friends or neighbors. She had such a warm and caring demeanor and always extended a hand to anyone in need. Her life exemplified the virtues of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).
Dorothy was a faithful and longtime member of Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on District 15 for eighteen years under the leadership of Deacon Smith.
Dorothy was proceeded in death by her spouse, parents, and grandson, Shawnell Pitts; son-in-law, Leroy Nelson. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Hamilton (Spencer), Sharon Nelson, Patricia Simmons (Dennis); grandchildren, Valerie Wilson (Elliott), Christopher Brinson, Sharron Neal, Darrell Danner, Bobby Nelson, Jesula Colimon; great-grandchildren, Shawnell Pitts Jr., Roshawn Pitts, Derreonte Corbit, Shawnell Richard Pitts, Kjuan Pitts, Jakim Nelson, Tremel Nelson, Eddie Bryant, Ja'Kai Bryant, Breyanna Brinson, Christopher “Lil Chris” Brinson, Alasha Nelson, Candace Nelson, Elijah Nelson; great-great grandchildren, Kali Brinson, Ava McCoy, Asaiah Hill, Quan Pitts, Skylar Pitts, and Paisley Pitts. Also to mourn her passing are a host of other dear relatives and special friends, including The Bliss family, The Wright Family, The Simmons Family, Laura Pate, Juliet Stamps, Idella Brown, Hazel Byrd, Debbie Pavelka and Patricia Jacobs.
No matter how she was feeling, she would always say, "I'm feeling pretty good".
Dorothy’s legacy of love, kindness and warmth will continue to inspire us all. She will be profoundly missed and fondly remembered by everyone whose lives she touched.
Celebration of Life service for Mrs. Dorothy E. Blake will be 11:00AM Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Emanuel Missionary Baptist Church, 2407 S. L. Badger, Jr. Circle. Visitation Friday from 5 – 7:00 PM at The Soutel Chapel. Interment in Restlawn Memorial Park South. Because of the love of her family, arrangements entrusted to J. E.
