Delois Lamar Obituary

Lamar ~ Mrs. Delois Lamar was born Tuesday, October 26, 1937 in Dothan, Alabama to Willie Arthur Grubbs and Lillie Bee Grubbs (Headland, Alabama).  She was the only girl of five children.  Delois migrated to Jacksonville, Florida and graduated from James Weldon Johnson High School where she soared as a majorette. 

Delois met and married Jessie Lamar and begat ten children.  She was affectionately known as “Love” because of the love she shared with her family and everyone with whom she came in contact.  Delois was a loving mother and grandmother, who opened her heart and doors to anyone in need.

Professionally, she worked for forty years as a medical professional at Memorial Hospital of Jacksonville.  Delois used her education and skills to work a plethora of positions and retired approximately ten years ago.  She loved roses and her favorite color was red.

Delois transitioned Friday, February 25, 2022.  She was predeceased by her husband, Jessie Lamar; children, Johnnie Rivers, Janis Rivers, Carlos Rivers; grandchildren, Jercoby Groover, Latasha Rivers, Shaw Rivers Jr.; parents, Willie Arthur and Lillie Bee Grubbs; brothers, James Grubbs, Arthur Grubbs, Tommy Lee Grubbs, Willie Charles Grubbs.  Delois leaves to cherish precious memories to her children, Rosa Rivers, Tito Rivers (Lessie), Angela Levens, Fernandas Rivers (Kavia), Jackqueline Rivers, Adoria Rivers, Felisha Groover (Willie); twenty-nine grandchildren; fifty-nine great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Michelle Rivers; sisters-in-law, Barbara Grubbs and Betty Grubbs; a host of loving family, friends and co-workers.

Celebration of Life service for Mrs. Delois Lamar will be 1:00PM Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Greater Refuge Temple, 1317 Rowe Avenue.  Visitation Friday from 5 – 7:00 PM at The Soutel Chapel.  Because of the love of her family, arrangements entrusted to J.
