Walker ~ Harry Alfred Walker was born November 18, 1942, in Jacksonville, Florida, the first born to Harry Walker and Marian Valdes Walker Benton. On January 19, 2025, he reached out, taking the hand of his Heavenly Father and transitioned to eternal life, where he is safe in the Master’s arms.
Deacon Walker was preceded in death by his daughter, Yolonda Rushing; parents; and brother, Lonnie Walker. Harry accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age at Bethel Baptist Institutional Church. His spiritual growth and Christian service was deeply influenced by Bishop Rudolf W. McKissick, Sr. and Bishop Rudolf W. McKissick, Jr.
Attending local schools, he graduated from Old Stanton High School, Class of 1960. Harry continued his education at Jones College with an Associate Degree in Accounting.
He served our country through the U.S. Army and was then employed at Pantry Pride and Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office as an accountant, retiring after twenty-six years of service. No one was a stranger to Harry; everyone that knew him loved him. He possessed the unique ability to express what he thought or how he felt and the gift of laughter ………. all in love. Harry truly loved people. He had a fun side. Harry was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, lover of word games, especially “Words With Friends” and a culinary connoisseur aka “foodie”. He loved life, treasured his family and friends, and adored his beloved Marion whom he often referred to as “My Queen.”
Harry had a strong commitment to using his time, talent and treasure in serving the Lord. Utilizing his skills, he became a part of the Deacons Ministry, Transportation Ministry, Culinary Ministry, Covenant Keepers and church schoolteacher. He served faithfully until his health would not allow him to continue.
Deacon Harry Walker was devoted to his family and all those that were blessed to know him. He leaves to cherish his memory from Jacksonville, his devoted wife, Marion Walker; children, Dana (John) Lomas, Harry V. Walker, Fikisha T. Walker, Tiffany P. Kelly, and Reginald C.
