Turner~ Deacon Dexter Charles Turner was born in Jacksonville, Florida, October 22, 1952. He graduated from Jackson High School. Dexter joined the Army & was given an honorable discharge April 15, 1981. He was an active member of New Mt. Zion Baptist Church, FOP, & Club Royal Ambassadors, Inc. Dexter was the biggest fan of the Jacksonville Jaguars since day one. He enjoyed serving as a Deacon, fishing, traveling, listening to music and singing in the choir, spending time with family and friends, & making everyone laugh. Dexter and Evelyn were united in holy matrimony August 2, 1988. He was employed with Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office as a Police Officer then later retired as a JSO Correctional Officer.
Dexter was preceded in death by his parents, Louvenia Turner Raysor and Charlie Morris; brothers, Thaddeus E. Raysor Sr., Wendell Raysor, Edward Bell; sister, Cheryl Turner. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of thirty-three years, Evelyn; daughters, Tolanna Mims (Nichodus), Shantell Turner; sons, Roosevelt Brown (Monica), Gerald Brown; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren; sisters, Rosalyn R. Fowler (Claxton), Jacquelyn Raysor, Thomasina Raysor; aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and co-workers.
Celebration of Life service for Deacon Dexter Charles Turner will be 12:00 PM Thursday, June 16, 2022 at First New Zion Baptist Church, Pastor Leroy Grant, Jr. Visitation Wednesday from 5 – 7:00 PM at The Soutel Chapel.
