Harrington ~ Cornelius Alton Harrington, Jr. was the first of four siblings born to the late Cornelius Alton Harrington, Sr. and the late Virginia Harrington, September 11, 1944, in Jacksonville, Florida.
He attended Old Stanton High School and enlisted in the U S Navy June 21, 1963, before completing high school. While in the military, Cornelius was able to complete his high school equivalency diploma August 26, 1968. Later, he was honorable discharged form the Navy June 20, 1969.
Cornelius worked at Amtrak railroad. He was promoted to Chief-On-Board/Operations Supervisor and gained the nickname “Chief”. After serving thirty-two years of service, Cornelius retired in 2004, at the age of sixty years.
He was married to Betty Jean Sparrow January 20, 1990, for thirty years, until her unfortunate passing in May 2020. They were both devoted and obedient servants of Christ and members of Bethel Baptist Institutional Church, Jacksonville, Florida.
Cornelius leaves behind his beloved children, Desiree Harrington, Xavier Harrington (Colette), Joseph Harrington; step daughter, Washeka Neloms; grandchildren, Zaria Swinton, Lorenzo Swinton II, Amiya Myrick, Mekhi Myrick, Deslyn Lee, Liam Harrington & Makenzie Harrington; siblings, Jackie Harrington, Sr., Paul Harrington, Lucille Harrington; many nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, including special friend, Charlesetta Toomer.
Cornelius passed October 11, 2022, in Jacksonville, Florida, leaving behind many writings about the gospel and his love for Jesus Christ.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Cornelius Alton Harrington, Jr, 11 AM Saturday, October 29, 2022, at The Soutel Chapel. Visitation Friday from 5 – 7 PM at The Soutel Chapel. Interment in Jacksonville National Cemetery, Monday, October 31, 2022 at 10:00 AM. Because of the love of her family, arrangements entrusted to J. E.
