Charles C. Jones

Jones ~ Charles Curtis “CC” Jones was born October 13, 1927, to Charles Curtis Jones and Noval Lily Winston Jones in Montpelier, Virginia.  Under the watchful eye of his loving grandmother, Lula Mae Winston, Charles grew up with siblings, Rosella Hooker, Fitzhugh Jones, Georgianna Starnes and Lucille Howell. 

On November 6, 1945, he joined the U S Army which located him to South Carolina.  While visiting with a friend, he met who would become his wife, Dorothy Mae Winn.  They courted and eventually joined in matrimony in Walterboro, South Carolina December 20, 1950.  Soon after they expanded their family and began traveling.  During his military assignments, he was stationed in Texas, Germany, Alaska, Kansas and Virginia and he proudly served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars.  Charles received an honorable discharge and retired from the U S Army in 1970. 

He later started a new career as a bus driver for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.  During that time, he loved traveling, the Washington Redskins, speed walking, and spending time with family and friends.  He also found time during his busy schedule to transport seniors to church and doctors’ appointments, then finally decided to retire for a second time.  Charles moved to Florida to spend his remaining years with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He loved playing checkers, dominos and watching wheel of fortune. 

Charles is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Dorothy W. Jones; children, Laurie Joyce Jones, Dara Jennifer Forest, Charles Russell Jones, Eva Celeste Jones; grandchildren, Shelly Jones, Channell Jones, Richard Hoggs, Charles “Mook” Borders, Courtney Jones Butts, Simone Forest; beloved nephews and nieces, Carolyn Hooker, Reagan Hooker, Angela Jones, Gregory Jones, Denise Hill, Darren Jones; brother-in-law, Willie Shark and Family (SC); sisters-in-law, Betty Jones (VA), Carolyn Winn (SC); a host of other great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Celebration of Life service for Charles Curtis Jones will be 2:00PM Saturday, March 18, 2023 at The Soutel Chapel.  Interment at Edgewood Cemetery.  Because of the love of his family, arrangements entrusted to J. E. Fralin & Sons Funeral & Cremation Services, 5065 Soutel Drive, 904-924-9400
