Brooks ~ Charles Anthony Brooks, known as “Andy,” was born January 27, 1959, to the late Mr. Nathaniel Brooks and Mrs. Mary E. Cooper Brooks. Charles attended the following schools in Jacksonville, Florida: John E. Ford Elementary and Grand Park Elementary Schools; Paxon Junior High School, where he played basketball and ran track. Next, he attended William M. Raines Senior High School, where he was a member of the track team, and graduated with the 1977 class. Charles said with pride, “I’m a true VIKING.” Upon graduating from high school, he attended Florida Junior College and Jones Business College. He joined Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and was baptized by the late Reverend H. H. Wright.
Charles was a person who loved people. He cherished his family and friends (and he was true to his friends). He was an individual who loved to travel, and he loved sports, especially track and field. He loved the Bob Hayes Invitational Track Meet. Charles was a member of the 440 Relay, pole vault, and high jump (which he excelled in at Paxon and Raines.
His favorite activities and pastimes included going on cruises with family and friends, gardening (plants and flowers), and any kind of mechanical work on cars, trucks, and yard equipment for himself and others. He was also a longtime and enthusiastic FSU Seminoles football fan. One of his favorite amusement parks was Walt Disney World from childhood to adulthood. Indeed, he really enjoyed life.
Charles was employed for twelve years with the U. S. Postal System, and the last twenty-one years at Henry Schein Pharmaceutical Company.
He leaves to mourn, his relatives, Debra B. Williams (Willie); devoted aunt, Ann R Whitehead; siblings, Timothy, Juan (Traci) Brooks, Michael E. Miller, Benitra Brooks, Frances Young; uncles and aunts, Charles E. Cooper (Josephine), Alonzo Brown; nephews and nieces, Robert, Paul, Ciara, Nikki, a host of others; loyal and faithful cousins, Dr. Charles E. Cooper, Jr. (Cynthia), Yvette Carter, Sherri Baker, Angela Washington, Christopher Cooper (Deidra), John E. Cooper (Michelle), Doreen Hollins, Consuela Brown, a host of other cousins; godsister, Rosalind B. Davis; godchildren, Shantall, Gerald, Chandra; best friends, Mr. & Mrs. Gerald Mixson; childhood friend, Eddie L. Braddy; extended family includes Wallace Z. Weathersbee and daughters, Brenda T. Jones, Alfreda Dassie, Allie F. Polite, Valencia Ellis; along with a host of friends, schoolmates and coworkers.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Charles Anthony Brooks, 12 Noon Saturday, April 9, 2022, at Emanuel Missionary Baptist Church, 2407 Rev. S. L. Badger, Jr. Creek East. Visitation Friday from 5 – 7 PM at The Soutel Chapel. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery. Because of the love of his family, arrangements entrusted to J. E.
