Bellamy ~ Charles Henry Bellamy was born in Conway, Horry County, South Carolina to Jessie Bellamy and Leitha DeWitt. He was the last of five siblings.
Charles attended his early education in Conway, South Carolina, then moved to Brooklyn, New York where he graduated from Brooklyn Automotive and Trade School. He began his career at Brooklyn Navy Shipyard as a team leader before becoming an International Longshoreman. Later, Charles moved to Miami, Florida and worked on the ports from Key West to Bayamon, Puerto Rico. In 1973, he moved his family to Jacksonville, Florida and began the number one refrigeration mechanic, number one foreman, operating with fifty-two men, Puerto Rico Marine Management, until retirement at seventy-two years of age.
He was predeceased by his parents, Jessie Bellamy & Leitha DeWitt; brothers, Elbert Bellamy, Perry Bellamy, Earl Bellamy, Lindbirgh Bellamy; sister, Shirley Bellamy. Better known as “Charlie”, he leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife/caregiver, Linda Bellamy (better known to him as Suzette); children, Anthony Bellamy, Michelle Bellamy, China Bellamy, Anita Bellamy Wright, David Howard, Monique Cherry, Jamiyah M. Ramos-Nance; godsons, Bryan Keith O’Neal and Stephan Jenkins; eight grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; extended family and friends. Charles transitioned eternally with our Savior Jesus Christ August 20, 2021.
Graveside Service for Charles Henry Bellamy will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 1, 2021, Evergreen Cemetery, 4535 North Main Street. Visitation Tuesday from 5 – 7 PM at The Soutel Chapel.
