Bernice Marie Mitchell

MITCHELL ~  Bernice Mitchell was born May 21, 1923 in Ft. Gaines, Georgia to Grover and Mary Williams-Childs.  She graduated from high school and attended college.  Bernice later married Ralph Mitchell who preceded her in death.

She was a member of Second Missionary Baptist Church since 1941, where she was a member of the Sunday School Baptist Training union, Youth Counselor, Vice President of District 25 and graduate of the Jacksonville, Florida Citizen Police Academy.  Bernice was an honored businesswoman where she served her community as a beautician for many years.  She was not blessed with biological children, but had many godchildren, Larry Valentine (Carol) of Miramar, Florida, Robert Barrera of Miami, Florida, Mary Steward-Kearney (William) of Cuthbert, Georgia and Georgetta Edwards (A.B.) of Jacksonville, Florida.

Bernice was preceded in death by her father and mother; brothers, Grover Childs II, Jack Childs, Julius Childs, Rufus Childs, Mike Crews; sisters, Lora Mitchell, Hazel Bryant, Mary Ward, Louella Inman, Betty Covin.  Left to cherish her memory, godchildren; sisters, Christine Best of Chicago, Illinois, Shaffie Long (A.B.) of Orlando, Florida and Cherry Mitchell of Leesburg, Georgia.  Bernice will be missed.
