MIMS-HOUSTON ~ Ada Josephine Ellis, born to the late Mr. Ellis and Viola Walker in 1932; raised by incredibly special fathers, Johnny Pelham and Sylvester Ellis in Laurel, Mississippi. She attended Bowling Haven Boarding School for Girls. Ada completed nursing school, became a registered nurse, moved to Gainesville, Florida and later to Jacksonville, Florida.
She joined St. Paul Lutheran Church, December 15, 1958, under the leadership of Reverend James Boland. Ada was a dedicated and loving member of the church for sixty-three years; she worked many years with the Hospitality Committee. Ada gave service with a smile and was a great benefactor to the Youth Community choir. She will be greatly missed.
Ada leaves to cherish her memory, children, Acie Mims (Sheila), Wynella Bovin (Allen), Sanchez Mims, Sr. (Terri), Sebrina Span (Rufus); grandchildren, Anerta Mims White, Antonio Mims, Michael Rower, Alond Mims, Velvet Bovin, Torin Span, Michael Houston, Bruce Turner, Monique Mims, Sanchez Mims, Tanay Mims; twenty-one great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; brother, Herbet Pelham (Jeanett); sisters, Ida Johnson, Susan William, Lisa Coleman (Alford), Rose Patrick (Cifford), Juanita Pelham (Camp), Alice McNeely (Paul); godson, Darien Garlington; friends, Ralph and Reginald Williams, Tobi and Jarvis Parrish, Bernard Lincoln; life-long friends, Wonnie Shields, Gussie McCall, Mr. and Mrs. Moses Bronson, Willie Carter, Mrs. Aretha Kearns, Ms. Fannie Thomas, Dorothy Wilson; other relatives and friends.
