Marthenia Newell Obituary

NEWELL ~ Our beloved Evangelist Marthenia Newell, professionally known as Martina Newell, was born   June 8, 1937, to the union of the late Fred Burke, Sr. and Mother Janie Mae Burke in Jacksonville, Florida.  She was educated in the Duval County School District and was a member of West Union Baptist Church of Jacksonville, where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.

In her prime, Evangelist Newell moved to Chicago, Illinois.  While there, she worked as a cosmetologist and later studied Theology at St. Jude Temple Christian Assembly and was ordained into ministry.  Chicago, Illinois is also credited for her marital union with Bishop Felton Newell.  The two relocated to Jacksonville, Florida to continue their life’s work of laboring in the gospel.  Together, they built the Helping Hand Organization, Mother Mary Holiness Church and All Nation Love Church; working tirelessly until the Bishop’s demise in 1989.

Following his transition, Evangelist Newell organized her own ministry, All Saints Prayer Band and The White Dove Holiness Church.  In 2001, God blessed her with a marriage ministry to heal marriages through her workshops, seminars and DVD, “Marriage Spiced Upp!”   Evangelist Newell led her ministry until she retired in 2011.

Evangelist Newell joined Triumph the Church and Kingdom of God in Christ in 2017, where she worked faithfully under the leadership of Shepherd Andrew and Lady Vonceil Williams, until she was unable to attend.  She served as a member of the senior choir, event planner, prayer warrior, counselor and motivator.  She was happy to be accepted in the organization as a willing worker, and truly had the heart for people.

If you were ever in her presence for more than five minutes, you became aware of her God-given talents.  She had the gift to advise and organize organizations and groups, raise funds for projects, sing, heal the sick, preach, teach, facilitate and structure workshops for herbal and nutritional healing, writing dramas and plays, and was a religious comedian in her own right. You could depend on her for words of comfort or laughter for the day.

Evangelist Newell will be missed by all who knew and loved her.  She leaves to cherish her memory, children; grandchildren; sister, Mother Everlena King; a host of nephews, nieces, in-laws, godchildren and many sorrowing devoted friends.
