BENSON ~ Born in Marion County, Indiana, August 24, 1973, LaShonda Carlesa Benson was the daughter of Joseph Holloway and Martha D. Davis. A graduate of Forest Senior High School, LaShonda also graduated from Florida Community College at Jacksonville before joining the United States Armed Services in 1996. During her service in the U S Army, she toured Kosovo, Jordan, Afghanistan and three tours in Iraq as a second level Chief Warrant Mobility Officer; she was also a proud member of the Beta Xi Chapter of Sigma Phi Psi – a military sorority for armed force women. After completing twenty-one years of active service, LaShonda retired February 28, 2017.
While proudly serving her country and into her retirement years, LaShonda loved to travel and literally traveled the world; visiting Germany, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Hawaii and a host of other places. When she wasn’t traveling, she was spending as much time as she could with her mother, brother, sister, family and friends. LaShonda also made time to sneak in a few surprise visits to her grandmother, Ella Benson, in Indianapolis.
LaShonda leaves to cherish her loving memory, parents, Joseph Holloway & Martha D. Davis; siblings, Joseph Benson Holloway, Adriana P. Letson; grandmothers, Ella Mae Benson, Mavis Holloway; nephew, Javier Isaiah Holloway; nieces, Jonea Arielle Reddy, Brooklynn Denise Letson; loving partner, Sheila Lyle; her four-legged companion, Jojo Benson; a host of extended family and friends.
