DUNN ~ Harris Eugene Dunn was born July 9, 1952 to Eugene and Evelyn Dunn. He attended Adkin High School where he was a part of the last graduating class of 1970. Harris joined the United States Army after high school. He was honorably discharged in 1974. Harris moved to Jacksonville, Florida; attended the University of North Florida where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Journalism.
Harris was a dedicated husband for forty-five years and an adoring, supportive father to his children. Harris, who is preceded in death by his beloved father, Eugene and mother, Evelyn Dunn; brothers, Charles L. Phillips, Archie Phillips; and sister, Martha McAffity. He is survived by his loving wife, Delphine Dunn; children, Jamel Dunn (Tracy), Shartrice Andre (Andy), Dominique Carter (Spencer); grandchildren, Shaniya Dunn, Ciara Dunn, Simone Carter, Emmanuel Andre, Eva Andre; sister, Debra Landers; nephews, nieces, cousins and cherished friends.
During his professional years, he was a Sales Manager with Radio Shack for thirty-eight years. After retirement he begin substitute teaching for Duval County Public Schools.
Harris and Delphine became members of the Bethel Baptist Institutional Church in 2002. They were elevated to the Deacon Board and were devoted stewards. He served in many ministries that include; Men's Ministry, Covenant Keepers, and Married Couples Sunday School. He became the cluster captain for cluster #1 and his favorite assignment was Lakeside Nursing Home where they would go to sing and minister to the patients monthly. His hobbies included drawing, working in his garden, traveling, grilling, journaling, fishing, perfecting his special recipe for banana supreme and spending time with his family. Harris lived a devoted life from his military service, professional endeavors, service in the church and complete devotion to his family.
Celebration of Life Service for Deacon Harris Ernest Dunn will be 11:00 AM at Bethel Baptist Institutional Church, 215 Bethel Baptist Street, Bishop Rudolph W. McKissick, Jr., Lead Pastor; Bishop Rudolph W. McKissick, Sr., Pastor Emeritus. Family will receive friends Friday at Soutel Chapel from 5 – 7 PM.
