WILLIAMS ~ Gwendolyn “Gwen” Elizabeth Williams was born in Jacksonville, Florida Monday, April 12, 1948 to the late Pastor George and Laura Wade. Seventy-one gorgeous years later, Friday, October 25, 2019 at 2:15 p.m., she peacefully went to be with the Lord.
The daughter of a church pastor, Gwen was a woman of faith. Spending many of her formative years in church, Gwen has always been fortified in the blood of Jesus Christ. She garnered her education in the Duval County Public School System, graduating from Stanton College Preparatory School in 1965. Gwen would later earn her associate degree in Criminal Justice from Florida State College of Jacksonville.
She was a beloved mother, grandmother, friend, and servant of the Lord. Gwen was a member of Bethel Baptist Institutional Church for twenty years. She dedicated her life to helping others, and after thirty-six years of service with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, she retired in 2012.
Gwen was a nurturer and a selfless woman who loved her family dearly. She strived to instill a love of God within them, along with values around hard work and good morals. Gwen did her best to showcase God’s love and power of forgiveness.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Pastor George and Laura Wade; daughter, Darlene Williams; and granddaughter, Nicole “Nikki” Williams. Gwen is survived by her sons, Joseph Williams, Vandel Williams, and Steve Mott all of which served in the United States Armed Forces; eleven grandchildren, Antjuan Williams, Taliyah Atkinson, Marquis Atkinson, Ta’vion Williams, Javon Williams, Brittany Williams, Joseph Williams Jr, Zarriah Williams, Zebulon Williams, Jaelah Williams, and Jasmaine Williams; nine great grandchildren; an abundance of extended family and friends. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. Her legacy will live on in the lives of those she loved.
Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Gwendolyn Elizabeth Williams will be 12:00 Noon Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Bethel Baptist Institutional Church 215 Bethel Baptist Street, Bishop Rudolph W. McKissick, Jr., Lead Pastor; Bishop Rudolph W. McKissick, Sr., Pastor Emeritus. Family will receive friends Friday from 5 – 7 pm at The Soutel Chapel. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery.
