CHERRY ~ Ms. Evelyn Louise Cherry was born July 21, 1948 in Jacksonville, Florida, to Lewis E. and Dorothy A. Cherry. Ms. Evelyn Cherry attended local schools in Duval County; she completed her high school education at New Stanton High School class of 1966; she then attended Edward Waters College.
Ms. Evelyn Cherry was employed by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office as a Correctional Officer; she retired after twenty-seven years of dedicated service and was awarded correctional officer of the month during her tenure. Ms. Evelyn Cherry was a member of Hope Chapel Ministries.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, a loving big sister, aunt, niece, co-worker and friend. She was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone in need. Her favorite past-time was cooking crabs.
Ms. Evelyn Cherry was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Lewis E. Cherry, Sr.; nephew, Anthony C. Whitley II. She leaves to cherish her precious memory, daughter La’Tonya D. Cherry; son, Sean C. Cherry, Sr.; grandchildren, Sean Cherry, Jr., Christopher Cherry, Devin Alexander, Saniya Cherry; great-grandchildren; brother, Lewis E. Cherry, Jr. (Tammy); sisters, Patricia Wright, Delphine Blue, Gloriadeen Vine, Valarie Cherry; nephews, nieces, cousins, co-workers, and friends.
Celebration of Life Service for Ms. Evelyn Louise Cherry will be 11:00 AM Monday, June 24, 2019 at Hope Chapel Ministries, 9850 Wagner Road, Pastor Jeanette C. Holmes-Vann officiating. Family will receive friends Sunday from 4 – 6 PM at The Soutel Chapel. Interment will be at Edgewood Cemetery. Because of the love of her family arrangements entrusted to J. E.
