Eugene Smith

SMITH ~  Eugene “Beautiful” Smith, Sr. was born August 13, 1926 in Jacksonville, Florida to Thomas Smith and Eva Edmeson Smith.  He received his formal education in Duval County Public Schools.  

Eugene professed his faith in Jesus Christ as a young adult and was called to minister the word of God at Queen Esther Church. Eugen Smith, Sr. accomplished many things fulfilling his calling to God.  He founded a church located on East 3rd Street that is currently operating as “Christ Temple Church of God in Unity”.  In addition to founding a church, he preached the word of God with passion and conviction.

He was united in holy matrimony to Eugene Nancy Carter Smith in 1947; they were blessed with four beautiful children.  Eugene served during World War I in the U S Navy for four years.  He worked and retired from Duval County Public Schools.  His work was always diligent, and his commitment was impeccable.  Eugene was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.  He built a legacy of passion, hard work, and commitment that will live on through his loved ones.

Eugene Smith, Sr. transitioned peacefully to glory January 20, 2020.  His life will be forever cherished in the lives of his loved ones ~ sons, Eugene, Giaird, Mark, Chris Smith; daughter, Brendolyn Smith; grandchildren, Kanasia Mixon (Shelly Mixon), Adhama Hamilton, Sanaa McBride (Henry McBride), Tahirah Turner (Derrick Turner), Denika Badger, Marquise Hickson; great grandchildren, Alexis Hamilton, Jahi Simmons, Brooklyn Turner, Raymond Mixon, Adhama Hamilton, Jael London McBride; great-great grandchild, Jahari Simmons; a host of friends and loved ones.

Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Eugene Smith will be 11:00 AM Monday, January 27, 2020 at The Soutel Chapel, 5065 Soutel Drive, Elder Iris Rhett, Officiating.  Interment at Jacksonville National Cemetery.  Because of the love of his family arrangements entrusted to J.
