SANDERS ~ Edna E. Sanders, a native of Jacksonville, Florida, was born January 25, 1924, to the late Lovett and Edna Sanders. She was a graduate of Stanton High School, class of 1942. Edna also graduated from Jones Beauty and Barber College as a Beautician.
Edna married in 1942 to Joe Dixon; from this union were six children, this marriage would end in divorce. Edna married again in 1954 to her husband of sixty-five years, Cleo Sanders; from this union were five children. She and her husband Cleo would raise all eleven children under one roof.
Edna became a follower of Christ at an early age, she became a member of Bethel Baptist Church in 1948.
Her son, Kenneth E. Sanders preceded her in death. This woman, full of grace, cared for her family with such great love. She kept a lovely home, always filled with plants. In her home, there was a place for everything, and everything was in its place. Edna was a great cook and planned meals were on the table daily. This devoted wife, mother and daughter departed this life October 12, 2019.
Edna’s memory will be cherished by her caring, faithful, loving and devoted husband, Cleo Sanders; children, Joe R. Dixon (Debbie), Edward B. Dixon (Avie), Toledo, Ohio, Randle C. Dixon, Moreno Valley, California, Edgar A. Dixon, Roseville, California, Geraldine D. Fowler, Glen Burnie, Maryland, Jackie F. Dixon, Vacaville, California, Cleo R. Sanders (Shawnee) Annette E. Mathis(Robert), Joyce G. Riley and Janice Y. Davis; twenty-nine grandchildren; fifty-one great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great grandchildren; loving sister, Gloria James, Miami, Florida; devoted son-in-law, Michael A. Riley; loving first cousin, Edgaranna P. Bardwell, Atlanta, Georgia; a host of cousins, nephews, nieces; dearly devoted friend and hairstylist, Clarise Curington; many loving friends and neighbors.
Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Edna Elizabeth Sanders will be 1:00 PM Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Bethel Baptist Institutional Church, 215 Bethel Baptist Street, Bishop Rudolph W. McKissick, Jr., Lead Pastor; Bishop Rudolph W. McKissick, Sr., Pastor Emeritus. Family will receive friends Friday at The Soutel Chapel from 5 – 7 PM. Interment at Restlawn Memorial Park.
