NEWSOME ~ Bobby Newsome was born July 19, 1938 to the late Isaac and Susan Newsome in Jacksonville, Florida. He was a graduate of Matthew W. Gilbert Junior-Senior High School in 1959 where he was a member of the 1958 Gilbert Panthers State Champion Football Team. In addition, the team was honored at the state capitol with a reception given in their honor by Governor Charlie Crist and included acknowledgements and a proclamation issued by the Florida Legislature.
He accepted Jehovah and was baptized in the faith. He was employed as a chef for Amtrak passengers and rail service where he retired after years of dedicated service.
Bobby leaves to cherish his memory, loving wife for more than fifty-nine years, Shirley Fisher Newsome; sons, Stanley, Kevin, Tracey (Cynthia), Stephen (Karen);grandchildren, Kevin, Kortney, Tayl’r, Sydni, Traci, Kyndal, Rachielle and Emonee; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Doris, Isaac, Sinclair (Marion), Sheilah, Belinda (Avon) and Harley; a host of nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life Service for Bobby Newsome will be 2:00 PM Saturday, November 9, 2019, Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall, Riverview Congregation, 3003 Soutel Drive, Brother Eugene Walker, Officiating. Family will receive friends Friday at The Soutel Chapel from 5 – 7 PM. Because of the love of his family arrangements entrusted to J. E. Bobby was devoted to his Alma Mater and an avid supporter of the Orange and Green. As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be donated to the Matthew W. Gilbert Class of 1959 and/or J. R. E. Lee (Jacksonville) Chapter of FAMU Alumni Scholarship Funds in his loving memory.
